The problem with frequent flyers …

june 2023

I recently took a flight to Asia on one of the big airlines. This isn’t one of the budget airlines, but one that’s known for its quality – rather than its price.

The flight itself was exactly what you’d expect it to be. The seats were as advertised, the food was ok… but the customer service was pretty crappy.

Now, I know on a plane you only have a handful of staff and hundreds of customers to care for. I’m ok to wait my turn and be patient. But the thing that really bugged me on this flight was the favouritism.

It didn’t matter who pinged their bell first, the ones with the frequent flyer cards were the ones that got served first. The rest of us were left waiting… and waiting. Again and again it happened. Sometimes with the same people getting served twice before the rest of us got a look in.

Now, I get it. They want to take care of the customers that spend the most money. And I guess this does that. But do you know what it doesn’t do? Encourage those of us who do fly frequently but are not yet frequent flyers with this airline to become more frequent! I mean, would you want to fly more frequently with an airline that had given you crappy service? It makes me wonder if this whole frequent flyer/favouritism thing is actually counterproductive.

It’s definitely not how we do things here at Millennium Cargo. At Millennium, we value our customers whether you’re a “frequent buyer” or not. We treat everyone fairly and we do our best to provide each and every customer with excellent customer service, great rates and the latest innovations in freight. It’s all about the people for us. About building good relationships.

That’s why I spend so much time travelling the world, visiting our clients, meeting new customers and connecting with our network. It’s why I spend hours upon hours on Zoom calls getting to know you and your business, on the phone chatting through your needs or at networks doing face-to-face meetings. Every customer matters. Even the infrequent flyers. I’m grateful for every single one of you – whether you move millions of goods each year or just a single pallet! So thank you. Thank you for working with us.

And if you do need a little extra attention, you don’t need to be a frequent flyer to get it! Just contact us and we can hop on a call or book in a Zoom. I’ll be more than happy to help.
