500 Rubik’s Cubes, 85 Spoons & A Pumpkin Boat…
February 2023
Did you know the longest journey completed in a pumpkin boat (yes, that’s a pumpkin hollowed out and then used as a boat) is 37.5 miles. The longest wheelie ever done in an aeroplane is 2.7 miles.
And the longest pieces of cargo transported by air freight were wind turbine blades measuring a whopping 42.1m in length!
I love a good Guinness Book of World Records. It’s just fascinating to see what some people get up to in their spare time.
From the most number of spoons balanced on a body (85, if you’re interested) to the most Rubix cubes solved on a skateboard (500!)… But one particular world record recently caught my eye…
Meet Bette Nash from Boston, Massachusetts. Bette is an air hostess working for American Airlines, but she’s not just any air hostess – she holds the record for longest-serving air hostess in the world! Since joining Eastern Airlines (which later merged with American Airlines) in 1957, Bette has been serving people in the skies for more than 65 years! And she’s not planning to retire any time soon. That’s some serious commitment, dedication and sterling work ethic!
Now, I don’t think we’ve broken any world records, but we’ve got some pretty long-standing staff here at Millennium Cargo too. Superstar Ali Askar has been with me since he left school aged 16. For more than 24 years he’s been part of the team. Janet’s been with us for over a decade and of me, little old Chadd, well I’ve been dedicated to growing Millennium for more than a quarter of a century!
And I’m so grateful to every single one of them. You see, I understand that the true magic in a business is the people. Without good people we couldn’t provide good service. And it will be the same in your business too. Find good people and do what it takes to keep them, because your team really are the superstars behind the scenes that keep the cogs moving.
So how about your business? Do you have a high staff turnover or do your people hang around? And what do you do to make your business a place people love to work? I’d love to hear about it…
