Did you ever watch Game Of Thrones?

Love it or hate it, there’s no denying it was a huge hit with over 44 million people tuning in to watch the final season. If you’ve watched it, you can see why it was such a success. Complex storylines, developing characters, dragons, magic and a little shock and awe thrown into the mix. For seven seasons, fans were enthralled, entertained and engaged.

I know what you’re thinking… seven seasons? There were eight, right? There were. But season eight didn’t have the same impact. In fact, many GoT fans were disappointed, frustrated and even angry with how the season ended.

So how did it go so wrong? How did a series that had captured the world for seven years lose its sparkle in a single season? Well, if you’re a hardcore GoT fan, you’ll already know that seasons one to seven were based on the books by George RR Martin. His final book, The Winds of Winter, has been in the works since 2010…but it’s not yet finished. This meant that the screenwriters had to come up with the plot for season eight alone… and the result was a little underwhelming.

But why has George’s book taken so long to publish? Google will tell you that he’s rewritten it several times. That he’s not enjoyed writing it as much due to the pressure now Game of Thrones made it so big. The truth is, I guess we will never know the real reason it’s taking so long.

But we can all learn from our buddy George. You see, as business owners it’s really easy to delay launching something new because we don’t think it’s quite “ready” yet. Perhaps you have a new product or service that you’re sure will be a game-changer, but you want to get it “just right” before you push the button. Well, I hate to tell you, but fast action beats perfect action – every time. If you don’t get it launched, someone else will. They might not do it quite as well as you would have, but they’ll probably do it well enough – I mean season eight of Game of Throne still made over $100m in HBO streaming and merchandise sales alone.

So what’s that big project you’ve been delaying pressing the button on? I’d love to hear about it…
