Do you have a bucket list? A list of things you want to do before you “kick the bucket”?

Some of the more popular bucket list items include skydiving, bungee jumping, swimming with dolphins and whale watching. Now, I’m no adrenaline junkie. But I do have a bucket list of my own… When I first started my apprenticeship in the freight industry, aged just 17, I had a few big dreams. I hadn’t done well in school and I’d had no idea what I wanted to be when I grew up – but when I was offered the opportunity to work for CGM (Scandutch) I jumped at the chance.

Why? Because although I was young I had some big dreams and I believed that a career in freight could help me achieve them. You see, I wanted to travel. More specifically, I wanted to see Hong Kong, New York and Sydney with my own eyes.

Fast forward a few decades and I’ve seen them all – and a few more! But there’s a few things on my bucket list now that I’d still like to tick off.

I’d love to watch a heavy weight boxing match at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

I’d like to watch a rock concert live in Madison Square Gardens.

I’d also like to watch a rock concert live at the newly opened Sphere in Las Vegas.

And I’d like to take a trip on a container ship!

A few years ago I discovered that you can do a “cruise” on a container ship, joining the crew and discovering first-hand what it’s really like on a cargo vessel as it crosses the oceans. I’ve been in the freight industry for over 35 years and I have only ever been on a container ship once. But to sail on one, well It’s definitely made it onto my bucket list!

So how about you?

Do Have you ever been on a container ship? What’s on your bucket list? I’d love to hear from you…
